Colón throws for 2 TDs and Albany defense scores twice in 45-35 win over Campbell

Oct 31, 2026

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Kai Colón threw two touchdown passes, Albany's defense scored twice, and the Great Danes defeated Campbell 45-35 on Saturday.

The Great Danes took an early lead on Dillon Dunathan's 77-yard fumble return for a touchdown. They led 38-21 midway in the third quarter and their defense dominated the final minutes.

After Dunathan's touchdown got the scoring started for the Great Danes, a second fumble recovery led to a 14-yard touchdown run by Colón and Albany led 14-7. Later in the first quarter, Rahshan La Mons bolted 63 yards for a touchdown, giving Albany a 21-7 lead after one.

Campbell rallied with a couple of touchdowns in the second quarter and it was 31-21 in favor of Albany at halftime.

Albany made it 38-21 in the third quarter when Jamari Young intercepted a Kamden Sixkiller pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Sixkiller connected with Chinua Ezeigbo for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and JJ Cowan's 41-yard touchdown run made it 38-35 early in the fourth.

From there, the Albany defense regrouped, holding Campbell to a punt and two turnovers on downs.

Colón's 16-yard touchdown pass to BJ Norman wrapped up the scoring.

Colón threw for 214 yards and Norman had 99 yards on eight receptions for the Great Danes (6-3, 4-1 Coastal Athletic Association). La Mons had 119 yards rushing and defensive lineman Shawan Lewis had 3 1/2 sacks, raising his season total to 9 1/2.

Sixkiller threw for 271 yards, Ezeigbo added 110 receiving yards and Cowan ran for 97 yards, including three touchdowns.

The Fighting Camels (7-2, 4-1) are ranked No. 12 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Their 7-1 start marked their first 7-win season since the program was restarted 19 years ago.
