DETROIT (AP) — Eduardo Valencia homered twice and drove in four runs, Gleyber Torres had a home run and five RBIs, and the Detroit Tigers scored in every inning they went to the plate in a 14-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

The Tigers became the 22nd team in major league history to score in every inning they came to bat during a game and the second this month. The Kansas City Royals did it in a 15-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on July 6.

Detroit also did it in an 11-5 home win against the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 2, 2014.

Troy Melton (6-1) allowed three hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out five. Melton is 3-1 with a 1.09 ERA in his last seven starts.

Orioles catcher Chadwick Tromp almost prevented history, getting two outs with no one on in the eighth, but Zack McKinstry doubled and Valencia hit a 36 mph pitch over the left-field fence for his second homer.

Kevin McGonigle reached base five times and scored three runs as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak.

DIAMONDBACKS 8, PIRATES 7, 12 INNINGS

PITTSBURGH (AP) — James McCann singled in the winning run in the 12th inning with his fourth hit of the game and Arizona held on for a win over Pittsburgh despite blowing a six-run lead.

Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds hit back-to-back home runs for the Pirates to spark a three-run rally against closer Paul Sewald in the ninth to tie the game at 6-all and force extra innings. Lowe’s two-run shot was his team-leading 22nd of the season.

It was Sewald’s third blown save in 27 opportunities.

The Pirates also had a three-run eighth to make it 6-3 on RBI singles by Ryan O’Hearn, Endy Rodríguez and Marcell Ozuna.

Both teams scored runs in the 10th on errors.

Geraldo Carillo (1-0) got his first major league win as the Diamondbacks won for the 11th time in 17 games. McCann’s winning hit came off Wilbur Dotel (1-3).

RANGERS 4, RAYS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Austin Wynns homered, Cal Quantrill struck out seven and Texas beat Tampa Bay.

Quantrill (4-3) held the AL East-leading Rays to two hits through 5 1/3 innings as Texas won for the fourth time in five games.

Evan Carter led the way offensively for Texas with a pair of base hits, an RBI and run scored.

Peyton Gray, Tyler Alexander and Jakob Junis combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief before Jacob Latz retired the side in order in the ninth for his 21st save of the season.

MARLINS 1, PHILLIES 0

MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara pitched four-hit ball over seven sharp innings, Kyle Stowers homered and Miami beat Philadelphia.

Xavier Edwards singled and had two walks, and Liam Hicks had two hits for the Marlins, who won their second straight after ending a franchise-record 12-game losing streak Monday.

Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, who leads the National League with 33 homers, didn’t play because of a gastrointestinal illness.

Alcantara (11-6) struck out five and walked one. It was his major league-leading 16th quality start and the 111th of his career, surpassing Ricky Nolasco for the franchise record.

Calvin Faucher relieved Alcantara and thew a perfect eighth before Pete Fairbanks closed with another perfect inning for his 14th save.

NATIONALS 8, BLUE JAYS 6

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Nationals drew six walks against former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber in a four-run first inning, and Washington beat Toronto.

Luis García Jr. and Dylan Crews hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth for Washington, which is a game behind Arizona in the race for the National League’s third wild-card spot.

Kazuma Okamoto hit his 24th homer to tie a franchise rookie record for the Blue Jays, who have lost 10 of 14 and slipped 10 games under .500, matching a season high.

Bieber (2-2) became the 11th pitcher in major league history to walk at least six batters while recording two or fewer outs, and the first since Florida’s Ryan Dempster on Oct. 5, 2001, at Atlanta. He threw 42 pitches, just 15 for strikes.

After allowing two walks and an infield single to load the bases, Bieber issued back-to-back run-scoring walks to Keibert Ruiz and Daylen Lile. After Nasim Nuñez’s sacrifice fly, Jorbit Vivas drew the inning’s fifth pass. Jacob Young then walked to make it 4-0 and end Bieber’s night.

TWINS 3, ROYALS 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Royce Lewis hit a two-run triple with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Minnesota a victory over Kansas City.

Taj Bradley threw six strong innings for the Twins (54-54), who have won three in a row and five of six. They are third in the AL Cental, just two games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox.

Kody Clemens doubled for Minnesota in the fourth and scored on Josh Bell’s single. But center fielder Byron Buxton left in the fifth with right hip soreness after running to first base. It’s the same joint that caused him to miss the All-Star Game this month.

Kansas City went ahead 2-1 in the sixth when Josh Rojas stole home on the front end of a double steal and Salvador Perez had an RBI single.

Victor Caratini singled against Alex Lange (1-6) leading off the ninth and Brooks Lee walked with one out. Lange struck out No. 9 hitter Ryan Kreidler but Lewis, who entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh, drove a 1-1 cutter off the top of the right-center fence to win it.

It was Lewis’ second career walk-off hit, and Lange’s third blown save this season.

YANKEES 3, WHITE SOX 2

CHICAGO (AP) — Gerrit Cole pitched six shutout innings of four-hit ball and New York beat Chicago for their fifth victory in six games.

Anthony Volpe hit an RBI double in the second and scored on Max Schuemann’s two-run double as the Yankees (61-46) moved within 1 1/2 games of AL East-leading Tampa Bay. Jasson Domínguez had two hits and reached base three times.

Chase Meidroth hit a two-run homer off New York closer David Bednar with two outs in the ninth. Bednar then struck out ex-Yankee Everson Pereira for his 22nd save.

CUBS 10, CARDINALS 2

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner drove in two runs apiece and Chicago jumped out to a seven-run lead after two innings on the way to a victory over St. Louis.

Happ punctuated an 11-pitch at-bat with a two-run double to get the Cubs’ scoring started. Pete Crow-Armstrong’s sacrifice fly scored Michael Conforto and Suzuki added a double. Michael Busch and Hoerner added RBI singles to make it 7-0, chasing Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy.

McGreevy (4-9) lasted 1 2/3 innings and gave up eight hits and seven earned runs. He walked two and struck out two as the Cardinals lost their third straight game.

Alec Burleson walked and Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn singled as the Cardinals loaded the bases in the fourth. Burelson scored on a sacrifice fly by Nathan Church. Winn hit a ground-rule double that plated the Cardinals’ second run of the game in the ninth.

ASTROS 3, ANGELS 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Yordan Alvarez homered and hit a go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning to lift Houston to a win over Los Angeles.

Christian Walker added a solo homer while Houston relievers Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan Abreu, Steven Okert and Josh Hader combined for four hitless innings. Okert (4-1) threw a scoreless eighth to earn the win and Hader threw a four-pitch ninth for his 14th save.

The Astros won for the seventh time in eight games to remain two games behind Texas in the American League West. The last-place Angels have lost 17 of 22 games.

Nick Allen started the winning rally with a pinch-hit double off Angels left-hander Mitch Farris (0-2). Christian Vázquez flared a one-out single to shallow right, advancing Allen to third. After Jeremy Peña struck out, Alvarez lined a single to right-center.

Angels left-hander Red Detmers allowed two runs and four hits in five innings, striking out nine and walking none. Astros right-hander Peter Lambert gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings, striking out six and walking one.

ATHLETICS 4, RED SOX 3

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Brian Serven hit his first major league home run in almost four years and Gage Jump pitched six scoreless innings as the Athletics cooled off Boston with a victory.

Tommy White went 4 for 4 and scored twice for the A’s, who had lost three straight and five of six. Henry Bolte had an early RBI single, and pinch-hitter Lawrence Butler provided a critical insurance run with an RBI double in the eighth.

Connor Wong launched a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth for the Red Sox, who had won 18 of 20.

Batting ninth, Serven gave the Athletics a 3-0 lead with a two-run drive to center field in the seventh that chased starter Jake Bennett (6-4). It was his seventh career homer and first since Aug. 21, 2022, for the Colorado Rockies against San Francisco.

PADRES 8, ROCKIES 7

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Fernando Tatis Jr. went 5 for 5 with two RBIs in the first five-hit game of his career, and Xander Bogaerts’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning gave San Diego a victory over Colorado.

Tatis became the first major leaguer with five singles in a game this season and the first Padres player to do it since Adrián González on Aug. 11, 2009.

Manny Machado had three hits for the Padres, including an eighth-inning single that was misplayed by right fielder Jake McCarthy for an error — allowing Jake Cronenworth to score the tying run.

San Diego loaded the bases against Jimmy Herget (0-4) with nobody out in the ninth on Jackson Merrill’s leadoff single and two walks. Merrill scored on Bogaerts’ fly to center field.

Mason Miller (3-1) struck out all three batters in the top of the ninth to keep it tied at 7.

BREWERS 8. GIANTS 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Brice Turang had three hits and two RBIs as Milwaukee beat San Francisco behind Logan Henderson.

Brewers rookie Luis Lara knocked in three runs and Jackson Chourio added two hits and two RBIs to help the NL Central leaders end a four-game road skid. Henderson had seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings to win his first career start against San Francisco.

One of San Francisco’s seven hits came when Heliot Ramos’ high popup in the first fell between a pair of Milwaukee infielders.

Henderson (5-1) was sharp all night. The 24-year-old right-hander walked two and didn’t allow a run for the second time this season in a start of five innings or longer.

Four relievers combined to get the final 10 outs for Milwaukee.

All nine Brewers starters had at least one hit as they finished with 13. Milwaukee had runners on base in eight innings.

MARINERS 7, DODGERS 6

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dominic Canzone hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer — his second longball of the game and and fifth for Seattle — in the eighth inning to rally the Mariners past Los Angeles in their series opener.

Canzone sent a high flyball 414 feet into center field off reliever Alex Vesia, scoring Julio Rodríguez, who singled and stole second, for a 7-5 lead.

The NL West-leading Dodgers blew three one-run leads and grounded into three double plays. Every Dodger except Teoscar Hernández had at least one hit.

The Dodgers cut their deficit to 7-6 in the ninth against Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz, who earned his 19th save.

Dalton Rushing singled leading off. Shohei Ohtani followed with a double to right that was misplayed by defensive replacement Victor Robles, allowing Rushing to score and Ohtani to reach third. Robles had trouble picking up the ball on the warning track and it squirted out of his hand.

Max Muncy drew a nine-pitch, two-out walk that brought Mookie Betts to the plate. Betts grounded out to end the game.

GUARDIANS 6, REDS 5, 1ST GAME

REDS 2, GUARDIANS 0, 2ND GAME

Kyle Manzardo hit a grand slam, Chase DeLauter scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice bunt in the eighth inning and Cleveland snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-5 win in the opener.

The Reds sealed the win in the nightcap when, with a runner aboard in the ninth, Dane Myers made a leaping grab against the center field wall on Petey Halpin’s drive for the final out, securing Emilio Pagán his 11th save.

The Guardians were shut out for the ninth time this season and third time in four games.

The Guardians wasted another dominant outing by right-hander Gavin Williams, who allowed two runs on 12 hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.
